Elite Team Join Harrogate Grammar for Family Show
Harrogate scaffolding firm’s ‘family values’
It’s not every day you’re asked to help with the construction of a Gothic mansion but, for one Harrogate scaffolding firm, it was all in a day’s work.
Elite Scaffolding (Yorkshire) Ltd got the call from The Addams Family and, in a click of a finger, had a team working on a new home for Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday and Pugsley and, of course, the usual spooky crew of servants and various hangers-on.
But it’s true that perhaps not quite so many poles, linkages, joints and hinges were used this week as you might expect. After all, this “mansion” was a stage for a theatrical production at Harrogate Grammar School.
But, just the same, the company’s expertise was crucial, allowing the cast to recreate the feel and scale of the Addams Family home – albeit in the school hall.
“It’s not the first time we’ve helped with a stage and we certainly weren’t going to leave the production team at the grammar school in the Lurch this time either,” said Elite’s Spencer Cassidy.
“We appreciate the set can make a big difference and not just when it comes to impressing an audience. The cast can also draw a little confidence and belief from performing against a convincing background so, when you add young talent and some colourful costumes, you have a memorable package which everyone can take some pride in.
“We certainly do at Elite and we hope we played some small part in the cast and production team looking back at a job well done when the final curtain fell.”
Harrogate Grammar drama teacher and instructional coach Lucy Vincent said this year’s set allowed the back stage crew to make the most of the show and provided a foundation which allowed the cast to shine.
“The build-up has been a lot of fun but this was a big week for all of us and the culmination of a lot of hard work. We’re always grateful for help from the community and partners like Elite. When the cast took a bow for the last time, we hope they know it was partly for them too.”
